When it comes to my freelance photography business, I have to say that taking photos of couples (be it for weddings, standesamt ceremonies, or engagement announcements) is my absolute favorite. I will admit that when I was young and dreamt of being a photographer, I dreamt of traveling the globe working as a photojournalist. Now, that love for breaking open stories and giving people a voice who may not otherwise have one is still there, but I have learnt that you can do so on a small scale.
Capturing couples, especially on weddings, is documentary photography. It may not be documentary photography related to current events, but it is still an act of story telling and the photographer still needs to work at conveying the emotions of her/his subject/s.
Towards the end of summer, I shot these photos of the lovely Becky and David, who were celebrating their standesamt ceremony. (A standesamt ceremony in Germany is basically the legal wedding where the official and legal aspects of becoming a pair are dealt with. Couples usually celebrate with a smaller group of friends on a smaller scale for this event). I am still working on editing all the shots, but I just wanted to share these few with you guys today.
